How the Maine Home Performance Program Works
Maine Home Performance Program participating contractors will visit your home and perform a series of advanced tests to determine how to save energy and solve problems. They will provide you with a report, energy savings calculations from the TREAT software, and a proposal to do the work. Work performed by Maine Home Performance Contractors must meet national and state standards for efficiency and safety. MaineHP staff randomly inspect the participating contractors’ work for safety and quality.
Home Performance with Energy Star is the national program selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Department of Energy and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development as the cornerstone program for delivering energy savings to existing homes.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Maine Home Performance Program
Do MaineHP participating contractors do more than just inspections?
Yes. MaineHP participating contractors can perform the work and coordinate and test any work that they do not perform themselves. They test out after all work to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the work.
How long does an inspection take?
A typical inspection takes three hours. A large building or a building with more than one heating system may take longer.
How much does the assessment cost?
Contractors set their own price for the assessments based on distance and any additional services they provide. Some contractors may rebate back the assessment fee if you use them to do the proposed work.
What is included in the assessment?
The assessment at a minimum includes a blower door air leakage test, an inspection of your homes heating and hot water systems, an inspection of the insulation levels in your walls and ceilings, windows, doors and basements. Information from the inspection is used to create a TREAT energy model that will allow the contractor to forecast savings. You will get a report (see sample) and recommendations for action.
